The top one is a size 6 and the bottom one is a size 4. I think the bottom one is too young looking for a six year old, but I think she liked the photo. We will see if my darling little nearly four year old strawberry-red haired charmer of a grandchild will like the purple one. Sometimes if you WANT her to like something she WON'T.
Like when I was on the phone and her mom said come talk to G'ma. She said "I don't want to." When mom then said, come on, don't you want to talk to G'ma?.....the response?
"I DON'T WANT TO!!!"
Ya gotta love the little ones!
I thought you used a ribbon around the sweater . . . looks great.
ReplyDeleteThe yarn curls a bit so that is kind of cute. I have decided I like that particular pattern for a younger child and inside out it looks pretty snazzy for an older child! Heather may not realize that she designed a reversible pattern. :o)
DeleteThe purple on is like the one you made with me. Except I put a different body to it (skirt as Heather says), so that it wasn't so holey. I used a sc,ch,sc in one stitch, skipped a stitch, and then did the sc,ch,sc again all the way across. Then used that pattern putting the sc,ch,sc in the ch from the row below. Had to fudge at the corners when I got started, but just a little. I tried upping the first count at the neckline to 47 so it would be larger, but I won't know until I see the girls. Need to have one of those dolls made that is the same size...then I can try them on to see how they fit! I am now working on one in Glamour, and went to 47 stitches again, only this time I am going to be sure to make it longer AND put on longer sleeves. It will be for display for the store, so by the time Fall rolls around I should be able to let the eldest granddaughter have it.
If you have the Crochet Encyclopedia by Margaret Hubber (spelling?) she has the best version of this little darling in there. Her blog is My Hooks and Needles, link bottom right.
Just finding different bottom stitches for the body is the most fun! Use Edie Eckman's formula for figuring out the stitches and all will be well! To increase to larger sizes I just add stitches to each section, except and just make sure that each part of the front/shoulder/arm are even on both sides.
My 4 yo son does the same thing to my mom. I feel terrible when he does it... Or he'll get off the phone and say he wants to watch tv or something dumb like that. We're 3,000 miles away so I feel so bad. :( I guess it's just the age!!
ReplyDeleteNow that makes me feel a little better....I do know that children that ages still "say the darndest things" and they seem to be pretty single minded.
DeleteLOVE! I have a friend having a little girl in July, I should make on of these! :-)
